The video is misleading, it assumes you already have a mains smoke detector
in place. Also it should say that it is American.

The colours are incorrect..typical of the yanks to confuse everyone..

also those yellow connectors used in this video are illegal in Australia as
they can come loose and are not safe.

So, why Australian outlawed the wire connectors? Who say that they can
come loose and are not safe? How do you splice the wires in Australia,
    with scotch tape?

Nick, thank you for the video. I would like to see more and even a deeper
explanation about how the fire alarms communicate with each other.

safety is important in your home so it’s a good idea to keep on top of your
smoke alarm maintenance and be able to re-wire it should there be any
    problems:

Hardwired smoke alarm wiring is different than any other house wiring. It
supposed to be totally new wire run from main panel to smoke detector with
4 wire cable as black( hot), white( common), green or naked( ground/earth)
and red to connect smoke detector with other smoke detector to make it IN
LINE or connected with each other. So if you have not that kind of wiring,
you cannot connect detector with regular wiring because it does not have
red to connect two or more detector. The purpose of this is to sound alarm(
in case of fire or smoke) in all the detectors connected with each other(
two or more) at the same time to warn the family that the danger is there
some where in the house. I hope this will explain the red wire purpose.
